With over 20-plus pieces -- photographs, drawings and paintings -- the exhibit not only thrilled the public, it inspired other artists to show their work. The next Barely They're exhibit (spring 2010) grew to include work by 10 artists, with photographs, drawings, paintings, ceramics and installations. In this year's Barely They're: Consider the Sensual Edge, brought to you by The Art of Collaboration Studio, 15 Kamloops-area artists pay tribute to the human form in every type of art expression possible -- photography, paintings, drawings, and ceramics. Artists include Fame Mackney, Ula Chauvet, Robert Clark, Una Connor, Cindy Hayden, Hope Mikal, Sherri May, Malisa Lazzinnaro, Glen Mantie, Stacey Moore, Lynn Erin, September Kuromi, Catherine Dalfort, Debbie O'Donnell and Dana-Leigh Tomada. Barely They're is not erotica; its purpose is to show how artists use the bare human form to portray other messages in their work, hence the show's subtitle. Organizer's website: www.kamloopsarts.ca

Fashion Machine sees the audience arriving at an art gallery- Open Space. The audience mixes and mingles, viewing art work by children and an exhibit on Fashion and Style, along with other work(s) currently on display. Children ages 10 to 13 circulate amongst the patrons and select just five of those patrons willing to have their clothes entirely remade. Five willing participants will enter the Fashion Machine. Something special happens inside. Everyone else hangs out, mingling, chatting and wishing it was them. A short while later the action begins. The kids enter their open work shop space and begin redesigning and redoing the outfits. The tools at their disposal include sewing machines, scissors, buttons, ribbons, fabric, thread, and Bejewelers. The audience may walk around the perimeter of the work shop space viewing the young artists at work. The five select audience members have returned sans clothes. (Don’t worry, they’re wearing robes.) The children have a limited time period in which to remake the clothes. Less than one hour later, a fashion show occurs in which the Fabulous Five audience members don their remade outfits and showcase the work of the children. Organizer's website: http:://www.skam.ca

Our selection of independent documentaries cover a wide range of topics and genres. Screenings take place in our 200 person theatre on the last Wednesday of each month. Bones Brigade:Today skateboarding is omnipresent. Take a walk down any street in any town, and you are destined to see someone riding a skateboard. Well, it wasn't always like that. In the early '80s, skateboarding was fading away until Stacy Peralta brought a profoundly talented group of outsiders together and dubbed them the Bones Brigade. This documentary chronicles their epic rise, using awesome archival footage and moving first-person accounts from Brigade members Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, and Rodney Mullen, among others. Through passion, drive, creativity, and a surprising sense of teamwork, they revitalized the sport and influenced generations to come. BONES BRIGADE will blow the minds of anyone who grew up emulating these guys, but it also resonates for anyone who ever found a family or a purpose in an unexpected place.
